This light, cheerful comedy by American playwright Ken Ludwig has been a Broadway hit since 2004. The plot revolves around the popular trope of men dressing as women. Leo Clarke and Jack Gable, unsuccessful English actors, are forced to tour in a remote American backwater. Their only chance to improve their financial situation is to disguise themselves as the nieces of a wealthy woman who intends to leave her impoverished relatives a substantial inheritance before her death. The plot involves a greedy pastor, a cynical doctor, a eccentric old woman, an imposing blonde, a naive young woman, and a village simpleton. The characters’ lines are peppered with Shakespearean quotations, creating a whimsical and witty backdrop for the hilariously funny actions of the main characters. The play contains a subtle allusion to the famous Hollywood film Some Like It Hot. A cheerful story with beautiful music and dancing helps the viewer forget about their problems, become completely immersed in a life-affirming world of humor, laugh heartily, and return home in an excellent mood.
