PRESS RELEASE

Kafka on stage, Moldova in the mirror. The Chekhov Theater offers free admission to all journalists to the premiere of the show “THE TRIAL”

What do an unjust citizen and an influential politician have in common? In “THE TRIAL” – they all become prisoners of the absurd. The Chekhov Theater launches a new show that promises not only artistic emotion, but also a healthy dose of social reflection. We invite you to attend the premiere of the show “THE TRIAL”, a courageous adaptation of Franz Kafka, which will take place on April 12 and 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM, on the main stage of the Chekhov Theater.

Why is it worth witnessing Kafka’s Trial? Because “THE TRIAL” is not just a show about bureaucracy and diffuse guilt – it is an X-ray of our society. Ours, yours, of all those who try to preserve their dignity in a system that sometimes seems to operate according to incomprehensible rules.

What does this show bring new to journalists? A metaphorical framework in which the mechanisms of abuse, manipulation and power can be analyzed. A starting point for reports, comments and investigations about equity, justice and transparency. An opportunity to reflect on one’s own profession in a society that, often, requires more courage than a pen.

Theater – this gentle power that does not make laws, but changes mentalities. “THE TRIAL” reminds us that theater cannot issue ordinances, but it can legitimize a critical discourse in a public space often dominated by cynicism; it can unite people around essential values: dignity, justice, freedom; it can inspire civic actions, uncomfortable thoughts and, perhaps, a form of inner resistance.

For young people, the show is an alarm signal: Not to accept being reduced to a numerical code, not to fall prey to passivity. “PROCESUL” speaks to them about identity, about the courage to think and act freely, in a system that demands silent obedience.

A provocative question: Can an oligarch or a politician also be a victim of the system he created? The show raises exactly this question. In a country where corruption is often invoked, “THE TRIAL” forces a rereading of realities. It is an invitation to debate, not to hasty verdicts.

Admission is free for journalists. For reservations, please send an e-mail to theater.chehov@gmail.com by April 10, mentioning: full name, editorial staff and contact details.

After the show, journalists are invited to an open discussion with the director and actors, about the ideas and challenges of the show.

“THE TRIAL” does not offer simple answers, but offers something even more valuable: inspiration for investigations, a new angle for civic reflection and a bridge between journalism, culture and critical spirit.

Come for Kafka, stay for Moldova.
