PRESS RELEASE
The State Russian Drama Theatre named after A.P. Chekhov has launched a new model of cooperation with cultural organizations. Instead of renting premises, the theater invites partners to jointly implement projects – performances, choreographic evenings, social initiatives.
This model is based on the principle of mutual contribution and shared responsibility. Each partner brings their resources to the project – ideas, artists, organizational strength, and the theater provides the stage, technical equipment and audience. As a result, a common event is born, where there is no division into “hosts” and “guests”.
In August of this year, the Chekhov Theater signed long-term partnership contracts on cooperation with a number of organizations that have already successfully tested the new model of relationships:
— Plaiul Soarelui Foundation, a project dedicated to people with Down syndrome;
— Body Ballet Dance School for Children;
— Association for the Development of Contemporary Dance in Moldova;
— PROchtenie Project;
— Theatre and choreography studio GLORIA-FLAMENCO;
— Ensemble “Veselye Babushki”
— Free Theatre TOTEM
— “Independent Theatre Project”.
At the beginning of 2025, the Chekhov Theatre signed a partnership agreement with the Alexei Styrcea School of Arts to support educational and cultural activities by organizing joint initiatives and events.
All projects of the Plaiul Soarelui Foundation, whose activities are dedicated to people with Down syndrome, are held on the theatre stage free of charge. This is our step towards promoting the idea that culture is not a privilege, but a space for everyone.
Why do we think this is important?
A new form of openness. The theatre is an open house of culture, not a rented venue. Joint organization of events is a step towards creating a single cultural space in Chisinau, where the state theatre, independent artists and social projects exist side by side and support each other.
Dynamism of the cultural process. Joint projects allow the theatre to go beyond its own repertoire, offering the audience a more diverse range of events, from performances and choreographic evenings to social and educational events.
A progressive form of cooperation. Instead of commercial rent, where the space is used “blindly”, partnership turns the theatre into a platform for live cultural dialogue. All parties are interested in the quality of the event, its content and success.
Inclusion and social mission. The theatre supports projects that bring together people with special needs, including the initiatives of the Plaiul Soarelui Foundation. For them, the theatre provides the stage free of charge, emphasizing its mission: culture belongs to everyone.
Support for independent projects. Young theatre groups, non-profit organizations and social funds have the opportunity to present their programs in a professional theatre with a long history, without incurring unbearable expenses. This opens the stage to new voices and strengthens the cultural ecosystem.
Partnership as a state strategy. For the Ministry of Culture, this model means efficient use of resources: the state theater becomes a platform that works not only for its repertoire, but also for the development of the entire cultural sector.
Clear economic effect. The increase in the number of events increases ticket sales, creates new jobs, brings in additional taxes and stimulates the economy.
Image and international significance. Joint cultural projects contribute to the promotion of the Republic of Moldova as a cultural and tourist destination, increasing its attractiveness and fame, and contributing to the development of Chisinau as a modern cultural center.
The culture of the future is built on cooperation. Thus, the theater becomes not only a place for performances, but also a cultural hub where new meanings and projects are born
The new partnership model at the Chekhov Theater is a step towards creating an inclusive, dynamic and modern cultural environment, where everyone has the opportunity to be heard and seen.
